  3. Listen for the valve clicking when a scan tool commands it (many apps can) — silence points electrical, clicking with the fault still present points mechanical
  4. Look at the wiring along the underbody for chafe or corrosion

The code itself is a snapshot. The fault sets after the car's watched the numbers over a whole drive cycle. Here's what's worth keeping an eye on:

The vent and purge valves work as a team when the system self-tests. Watching purge activity confirms the ECU is at least trying to run the test the vent valve keeps failing.

Can I still drive it?

Yes, without a second thought for how it drives. One caveat worth knowing: if the vent valve is stuck *closed*, the tank can't breathe properly, and on some cars that shows up as a whoosh when you open the fuel cap or the pump clicking off early when filling. Annoying, not dangerous.

How much will it cost to fix?

The vent valve itself is usually £20-70 and often an easy swap once you're under the car. If it's just a blocked breather or a corroded connector, the fix can be free. The canister is the expensive outcome (£100+) but it's the rarer one.

Is it the fuel cap? The internet keeps saying fuel cap.
